Tom Savage Scholarship Requirements
 
The North Bay Officials Organization proudly sponsors the Tom Savage memorial scholarship program for high school varsity football players seeking to continue their education in a college, junior college, trade or vocational school. The NBOO has the intent of issuing three or more $500.00 scholarships to students each year. Requirements and applications are available at the web link listed below.


REQUIREMENTS:

Applicant must:
(1) Complete application, which can be found on this web site. 
(2) Get recommendation and letter from head coach or athletic director.
(3) Submit a short essay (1-3 pages). Details listed below:


APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 8, 2024 - 5:00pm.
Late applications will not be accepted.

Criteria for Application:

1. The applicant must be a senior and have played at least two years high school football, including one year at the varsity level. Position, playing time and status will not be considered by the committee.
2. The applicant must have played football at the varsity level at a school that is contracted with the North Bay Officials Organization.
3. The applicant must have demonstrated a superior degree of sportsmanship, fairness, enthusiasm, spirit, leadership and overall good moral character during his high school career, both on and off the football field.
4. The applicant must submit a typed and signed letter from his head coach or athletic director supporting the applicant in his efforts to advance into a College, Junior College or trade/vocational school.
5. The letter must be an original signed by the coach/AD and include a contact address and phone number to verify authenticity.
6. The applicant is not required to continue efforts at a football program at the college level.
7. Other sports, activities, clubs, interests, where good moral character and sportsmanship is shown may be considered by the committee. Letters of support from other coaches, teachers and/or leaders are encouraged and will be considered.
8. The applicant must graduate with a high school diploma.
9. The applicant must submit a NBOO application and a 1-3 page typed essay outlining his request for the scholarship. Special emphasis should be placed on the spirit and sportsmanship of the game of football.

The essay should indicate:
(a) What school(s) the applicant is interested in;
(b) What course of study the applicant is interested in and outline career/life goals.
(c) How the applicant applied / will apply the values of sportsmanship and leadership learned through the game of football.

The application, instructions and criteria will be maintained on the NBOO web site. Scholarship awards will be deposited in the student’s account at the school of their choice for Fall Term of the award year.

Application packets must address all criteria listed above and
must be received by March 8, 2024 - 5:00pm.
